Kampot, Cambodia

Out of town and down a road that seems impossibly long during wet season, you'll find a special place that quickly dissolves any memory of violent potholes and drenchings of terracotta water.
Eden Eco Village sits on the banks of the Prek Teuk Chhou and embodies sustainable practices. Each bamboo + thatch bungalow generates its own solar power, most things are recycled and composted (including the waste from the eco-toilets) & the meals are prepared with local produce.

Take two steps out of bed and dive straight into the river, if you're there at the right time of year you'll be a'glow with bioluminescent plankton.
Revel in the views of Bokor (particularly phenomenal at sunset) while lulling in a hammock.
Order anything from the menu, at any time of the day, it's guaranteed to be delicious.

There will be days where you mightn't leave at all. But then you might be offered a paddle board and a yoga class on the opposite bank at the Banteay Srey Project. Profits made through Eden Eco Village enable founder, Freya, to support and develop this amazing social enterprise. Tommorow's post we'll delve into what's happening just down the river.
