For the past 3 months I've been lucky enough to be part of the Nightingale community - where neighbours become a friendly support system and are keen believers in supporting all things local and environmentally sustainable.

@nightingale.housing wants to change the way people live together in a city apartment. They build apartments that are socially, financially and environmentally sustainable and "believe that homes should be built for people, not profit".

The apartments are sold via a ballot, and as much as possible is done to ensure that they are only allotted to owner-occupiers, not as an investment property. Oh, and 20% of homes are pre-allocated to vulnerable community members. When the apartments are built, they do all they can to make it as environmentally sustainable as possible - using green power and rooftop solar collections, 100% carbon neutral in operations and incorporating recycled, natural and locally sourced materials where possible. A lot of thought also goes into the communal spaces: a communal laundry, a beautiful rooftop terrace, the community gardens. This is because Nightingale wants to create the conditions for a strong community to grow in place.

The best thing here, is exactly that - the community that grows inside the building. A selection of wonderful home owners who at the "click" of a slack message are at your door with a TV cable, an allen key to fix your bike, or a loaf of freshly baked sourdough. It's been such a blessing spending time here amongst them all.
