Marrickville, Sydney

What is Addi Road? Beautiful, colourful, community. I stumbled across it by chance because of their weekend market but ended up exploring much more than a collection of food stalls.

Based on a nine acre heritage site in the heart of Marrickville, Addison Road Community Organisation is Australia’s largest non-profit community centre. From tired and dilapidated army depot in 1976 they are now a green, welcoming and supportive place where people can maintain and share cultures brought to Australia from all over the world.

Home to 43 tenants ranging from local artists, performers and theatre troupes all the way to mental health services and community organisations. Each of hese occupy a Hut from which they support the community in so many different ways, big or small, through arts & cultural programming, a focus on ensuring social justice and equality or environmental sustainability.
