A bit about the journey so far…
We started in Cambodia, made our way over to Australia from Sydney to Byron, a quick jaunt to New Zealand’s south island, back to Aus and then locked-down in Melbourne. Not a bad place to be stuck given there’s over 3,500 social enterprises and for-purpose businesses here!
Here’s a taste of a few we’ve been lucky enough to visit.
The Social Outfit
NEWTOWN, SYDNEY - Walked into this beautifully simple boutique, lined with brightly coloured clothes and accessories and was immediately attracted to those wonderful prints!
Parliament on King
NEWTOWN, SYDNEY - Food again yes, but this wonderful place is so much more than a cafè.
Lentil as Anything, Newtown
NEWTOWN, SYDNEY - Stopped at this colourful place for lunch, sat at a long table, had a chat with a stranger and paid what I felt.
Who Gives a Crap
AUSTRALIA - I open up my uncle's bathroom cupboard to this: the joy of colourful toilet paper rolls with bad toilet jokes on them.
The Bower Reuse & Repair Centre
MARRICKVILLE, SYDNEY - Welcome to the Bower Reuse & Repair Centre!
Reverse Garbage
MARRICKVILLE, SYDNEY - This big statue of old metal stands out behind the market stalls and I have to check out where it comes from.
Addi Road
MARRICKVILLE, SYDNEY - What is Addi Road? Beautiful, colourful, community.
The Bread & Butter Project
MARRICKVILLE< SYDNEY - The Bread & Butter Project is Australia's first social enterprise wholesale bakery, training people seeking asylum
OzHarvest Market
KENSINGTON, SYDNEY - OzHarvest market is the perfect mix of kindness and sustainability.
Heart Cafe
BONDI BEACH, SYDNEY - Relaxed, chilled atmosphere, just like the decor.
Do Good Labs
AUSTRALIA - Sitting on a flight back in November this yummy treat falls onto my tray.
Epic Arts Cafe
KAMPOT, CAMBODIA - Epic Arts Café is a wonderful café in its own right, but as soon as you step in the door you know there's much more.
KAMA
KAMPOT, CAMBODIA - Blues spills out onto the street through the bougainvillea and luscious ferns.
Deva Cafe
KAMPOT, CAMBODIA - Also on the riverside site and under the Banteay Srey Project umbrella, is Deva Café.
Bantea Srey Project
KAMPOT< CAMBODIA - Bantea Srey Project is a social enterprise and vocational training centre providing local Khmer women with training & job prospects.
Eden Eco Village
KAMPOT, CAMBODIA - Out of town and down a road that seems impossibly long during wet season, you'll find a special place.
AHA Fair Trade Village
SIEM REAP, CAMBODIA - Now this is a lovely market experience! Brass workers, spinning clay pots and noisy sewing machines.
Phare Circus
SIEM REAP, CAMBODIA - Where the story begins - in a circus tent, amongst fire, contortionists and inspiring Cambodians!
